Muscat: The Ministry of Tourism has said that as part of efforts to Omanise jobs that relate to the Sultanate’s culture, it will always strive to push for Omanisation of tour guide jobs based on languages.

When asked by citizens about Omanising the profession and whether only Omanis should be able to become tour guides, the ministry said, “Good day, expats in Oman are allowed to apply for a tour guide license for global languages only. However, becoming a tour guide in the English language has been 100% Omanised.

“In time, other languages will be Omanised in turn,” the ministry added.

The ministry also announced in a statement that currently, Omanis can be tour guides when they turn 18 years old, while expats have to be at least 25 years old to qualify.
