CRUISE SHIPS BRING OVER 19,000 VISITORS

The number of cruise ships that called at different ports in the sultanate witnessed a significant surge in April this year as compared to the corresponding period last year.

Sultanate’s ports received 19,146 visitors during April 2019 as compared to 12,470 in 2018, revealed the National Centre for Statistics and Information in its latest tourist index report. Of these, the maximum number was from Europe at 14,236 followed by Americans (4,509) and Asians (401). Meanwhile, in 2018, visitors from Europe stood at 11,209, Asians 147 and Americans 1,114.

Statistics also revealed that three- and five-star hotels received more than half a million visitors in April this year. Of these, 307,840 were Europeans, 165,032 were Omanis, 73,786 were Asians, 58,742 were from the GCC, 26,123 were other Arabs and 51,626 comprised other nationalities.

Oman’s ports received 298 cruise ships during 2018-19 compared to 106 which arrived in the 2017-18 period. The number of cruise ships that arrived at Port Sultan Qaboos was 147, while Khasab Port received 72 and Port of Salalah 79.
